March 13th: Global History - Conflicts, Revolutions & Tragedy

We begin with the devastating 2019 Christchurch mosque attacks, where a white supremacist's act of terror claimed the lives of 51 innocent Muslims, sparking worldwide condemnation and a call to combat extremism. We then journey back to 624 AD, examining the Battle of Badr, a crucial moment in early Islamic history.

 

The video further examines the lead-up to World War II, focusing on Japan's 1941 military expansion in Southeast Asia. We delve into the Cold War era with the 1979 Soviet Union's increased involvement in Afghanistan and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran. We also look at the 1954 Battle of Điện Biên Phủ, which signaled the end of French colonial rule in Vietnam, and the 1959 flight of the Dalai Lama from Tibet.

 

We cover key political events, including the 1979 coup in Grenada led by Maurice Bishop and the 1991 treaty between the Philippines and the United States, which ended the U.S. military presence in the Philippines.
